About APW

In the beginning

My thoughts about APW really began in the mid 1980’s when I set up and ran an urban nature conservation project in East Anglia. It was one of the first in the country and provided work experience and training for the long term unemployed. A socially worthwhile aim combined with a strong remit to improve the local environment for people and wildlife.

I really got to like East Anglia. In the late 1980’s I moved away to work in various roles in different parts of the country. In 2011, I returned to East Anglia and started developing Anglian Parks and Wildlife. I wanted to use and and share the experience I had gained after a varied career in recreational and wildlife land management.

Now

APW is best thought of as a wrapper around all my environmental activities. I’m now focussing more on my core activities of environmental education, in the widest sense, and photography. This was a consequence of the covid pandemic in the early 2020’s when face to face work dropped off.

The future

I have a number of new projects I am working on to keep things moving forward with new challenges.

Radio shows – I’m not new to broadcasting. Doing regular radio shows as a guest expert for the BBC I developed my skills and enthusiasm for radio broadcasting. I really enjoy it and in August 2024 I started working as a volunteer lunchtime presenter for a community radio station. As a consequence I’m now looking to do an evening environmental show.

Podcast – I’m a real science and wildlife communicator and more than a little techie. This just seems to be a natural progression from my radio work.

Exhibitions and fairs – I have started to attend these to sell framed pictures and canvases. It’s a new skill set for me in learning about printing, framing and presentation. Some earlier work in retail management has helped that.
